I remember buying my first pair of flared Lee jeans in middle school. A couple of years later I took a pair of scissors to them and cut them into frayed denim shorts. I am regretting that now…

All it needs is a loose fitting top and some height to lengthen your legs and you’re ready to go.

On Tuesday night, my work place was transformed in to a set of a fashion show to host the Trelise Cooper Boadroom Collection. Trelise Cooper is one of the most successful New Zealand fashion designers but she does not label her clothing as New Zealand clothing. Being such a young country with no real heritage of fashion icons, Trelise had to constantly create new ideas and products to cross international borders and search for new markets.

We were lucky enough to view both the original Boardroom Collection as well as some pieces from the new Spring collection. The boardroom collection featured both feminie silhouettes of peplum jackets and dresses with large shoulder accents as well as soft ruffles in floral prints. For Spring, lines were more fluid with a balance of print, texture and colour blocking in neutral tones, finishing off with bright hues in pink and cyan.

It was a great night flowing with drinks, good food and amazing outfits. Here are some snaps from the night.

Rows of neatly stacked boxes with fifties-style ad promises of ‘Your whites will never be whiter!’ set the backdrop for Moschino’s Spring 2013 Menswear Collection. Moschino’s Bill Shapiro and label matriarch Rossella Jardini were paying homage to “the graphic power of the supermarket.”

Of course, my immediate association to pop artist/icon Andy Warhol’s Campbell Soup prints was obvious and I couldn’t help but think how much he would have enjoyed wearing the ‘Fresh’ detergent shirt himself.

I love how easy it is to make your own DIY envelope bags, in fact I am in the middle of making very own! I think it’s always a good idea to have a mood board for any project you start so here is one of my many.

I especially love the wavy edge, plastic bag in the bottom right hand corner ❤

Thankyou Baby is one of my favorite online shopping sites and they have just released a ‘Vacance’ edition. I love all the prints, sportswear looks but my favorite is the jumpsuit with the kimono style throwback.

Unfortunately, they don’t have international shipping as of yet but let’s keep our fingers crossed that they will make it available for everyone to enjoy soon!

As much as I enjoy conceptual design I believe that the best fashion designers are those who can create pieces that surprise us but can also be worn in daily life. The thing I find with undergraduate projects is that they focus too much on the idea and often forget about the functionality of fashion, that it must be wearable.

Here are my favorite picks from the Royal College of Art 2012 Show.
