Since this morning, it has been raining on and off all day. But rain is an understatement. The sun is so bright with beautiful blue skies and the rain so light that it almost looks like snow. I tried taking a photo but it didn’t do it justice so instead I have created a photo board inspired by todays’ whimsical weather pattern.

Happy Friday everyone!

Last weekend for Easter I flew down to my old hometown of Christchurch in the South Island of New Zealand. The city was hit by a monstrous earthquake in February 2011 killing more than 185 people in one of the nation’s deadliest natural disasters.

It was my first time going back since the earthquake and it hit me pretty hard seeing all the rubble piled up on the streets. Luckily, the city is on the mend as well as the hearts of the locals. They have opened up Cashel Street with beautiful container stores and to my surprise they had also opened up Demetri’s Souvlaki store. My favorite eatery in town!

It’s going to be a slow process but I have no doubt that the ‘City of Gardens’ will restore its beauty again.

Last Sunday, I returned from a short holiday in Thailand with some close friends. I had never been to Bangkok before and the first thing that hit me as I stepped off the plane was the overwhelming intensity of the heat and this was at 10 o’clock at night! We had no plans for accommodation nor did we have an itinerary of what to see or where to go but I had packed light knowing that my luggage would double its size on my way back.

The next day we headed over to the Chutachuck Weekend Market, one of the largest markets in the world. With more than 15,000 booths selling anything and everything imaginable including Buddhist amulets, wooden funitures, hand made decorated flowers, plants, ceramic wares, Thai Bejarong, deep fried crickets, silk, hill-tribe outfits, pets and lots and lots of clothes.

Here are some of my favorite buys from the day.

Summer has certainly taken its time to get to New Zealand but we are not complaining. It just means that we get to enjoy a couple more weeks painting our nails in delicious ice-cream flavors. Mint, chocolate, lemon and peach are some of our favorite summer hues. All this sweet talk has made me crave something yummy and gooey. I think I’ll pop down to the store now…
